Myth of The Money is in the List
“The money is in the list.” It’s one of the oldest sayings in our industry, and there’s certainly some truth to it. But John (creator of the ClickBank Profit Club), after more than 20 years working online, points out that it’s only half the story.
A big email list doesn’t automatically mean you’re going to make money.
Here’s what he says:
IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT THE NUMBERS
Imagine two affiliate marketers. The first has 5,000 subscribers but rarely emails them, and he does, it’s usually a promotion with little thought about whether it’s relevant. The second has just 500 subscribers – people who joined because they were genuinely interested, who receive helpful, relevant emails and recommendations that actually make sense for them.
Which marketer would you rather be?
I’d take the smaller, more engaged list every time. The number of subscribers you have is only part of the equation.
EVERY SUBSCRIBER IS A REAL PERSON
This is something that’s easy to forget when you’re staring at numbers inside your autoresponder. Those subscribers aren’t just email addresses – they’re real people with their own goals, problems and reasons for joining your list.
Some might be complete beginners. Others may have been trying to make money online for years. Just because somebody gives you their email address doesn’t mean they’re immediately ready to buy anything.
That’s why follow-up is so important.
THE FOLLOW-UP IS WHERE THE REAL PROFIT HAPPENS
Think about your own buying habits. How often do you purchase something the very first time you hear about it?
Your subscribers are no different. They might not be interested in an offer today, but that doesn’t mean they won’t be next week or next month. The key is staying in touch and giving them a reason to keep opening your emails.
That doesn’t mean bombarding them with promotions every day. It means being helpful, providing relevant information and recommending products or services that could genuinely benefit them.
THIS IS WHERE CBPC GIVES YOU A HEAD START
One reason John built the ClickBank Profit Club the way he did is because he knows how difficult email marketing can seem when you’re just starting out. Writing follow-up emails, deciding what to promote and knowing when to send everything can feel overwhelming.
That’s why he provides a ready-made email follow-up sequence. Once your setup is complete, new subscribers receive those emails automatically while you focus on generating traffic and building your list.
But the automation is just the beginning.
After subscribers complete the initial sequence, you still have the opportunity to communicate with them through relevant broadcasts – sharing useful advice, introducing suitable offers and continuing to build a relationship with your audience. That’s how you turn an email list into a genuine long-term business asset.
JOHN’S ADVICE
By all means, set yourself list-building goals. Your first 10 leads, your first 100 and eventually your first 1,000 are all milestones worth working towards.
But don’t become so obsessed with the size of your list that you forget why you’re building it in the first place.
Pay attention to the quality of your traffic. Make sure your follow-up is working. Look at how subscribers are engaging with your emails and keep learning what interests them.
Because the real value of your email list isn’t simply how many subscribers are on it – it’s what you do with that list that matters.
Is The ClickBank Profit Club Legit?
This is definitely a legitimate affiliate business.
I received another $150 commission today, from purchases by people who joined the club over the past months.
But what is more important to me, is that one of my customers emailed me and told me HE had received $100 commission while he was on holiday. i.e. from work he did before his holiday.
It almost gives me more pleasure to hear of someone in my team earning – because so often, in the past, I have introduced people to businesses which have worked for me, but not for them.
My Own Experiences of List Building
Sometimes I get an email from a marketer who sold me something months ago, and it starts out: “I haven’t emailed you for a few months now …. but this is such a good offer I don’t want you to miss it”. In which case I tend to think, I have no clue who you are. You just see me as someone with a bank account, so I unsubscribe and go to one of my trusted colleagues who will probably be emailing the same offer.
On the downside of list-building, my list is only a couple of thousand, and I email them regularly, but only a few are buyers. The rest are freebie seekers, so I know I need to improve the quality of my leads, which I can do with the training inside the free account at the ClickBank Profit Club.- But on the positive side, sometimes, when people stay on my list long enough, they will eventually come back, in desperation, because they haven’t found the magic money tree they thought they would find at the start of their online journey.
If you’re not a consistent emailer yourself, this is a perfect example of why the ClickBank Profit Club, and the newly launched emailing extension, is perfect for you. As a basic CBPC member, John will start emailing your leads for 30 days – after which you are expected to continue with your own emails.
Beyond that John has introduced an extension email offer whereby he will continue emailing your leads with relevant offers until day 120. What’s even more important is they are his own products, so he knows they are reliable and supported – not from some clown who will disappear the minute he has your money!
