Why Blogs Outperform Social Media for Lasting Results

The battle rages on. Blog vs social media for building trust in online marketing?

Blog vs social media

I actually use both methods, but here’s something that bugs me about social media marketing.

You spend an hour crafting a really thoughtful, helpful post, designed to build ‘know-like-and-trust’.

You hit publish.

People scroll past it in 2.3 seconds.

By tomorrow? It’s buried under 47 cat videos and someone’s breakfast smoothie.

Gone.

And then you do it all again the next day. And the next. And the next.

(Oh, and you have to spend time replying to inane and irrelevant comments – like “Happy Friday” – that well-meaning followers leave on your posts so that you’ll engage with theirs)

Just watch for a few days, everyone in your feed is creating “value posts” that vanish in hours, trying to recruit each other into programs half of them already joined and quietly gave up on.

It’s like watching a hamster wheel made of good intentions.

Now, don’t get me wrong. There’s nothing wrong with showing up on social media. I do it. You probably do too.

But here’s what I’ve noticed…

Some people treat social media like it’s the WHOLE strategy.

It’s not. It’s a megaphone. And a megaphone is useless if you don’t have a home base for people to walk into when they hear you.build an online business the right way

That’s where blogging comes in.

(I know, I know… blogging sounds like 2009. But stay with me, because it has stood the test of time, and as social media platforms clamp down on people trying to use their free accounts a recruiting platforms, more and more social media accounts are getting shut down.)

A blog post you write today can show up in someone’s search results next month. Next year. Three years from now.

I have posts I wrote ages ago that still bring people to my door. Still answer questions. Still build trust with folks I’ve never met.

A social media post from three years ago? Good luck finding that.

Here’s the thing most people miss.

A blog is content you OWN. On your site. On your terms. Nobody’s algorithm decides whether it gets seen. When someone types a question into Google and your blog answers it… that’s not a lucky break. That’s a system working while you sleep.

Social media is rented space. Your blog is your home.

Now, I’ll be honest with you. Blogging isn’t a quick fix. It takes time to build. It takes patience.

So does social media! I’ve been showing up daily for months, and getting nowhere with it.

But the sooner you start blogging, the sooner those posts start compounding. Every article you publish is another door someone can walk through to find you.

Think of it this way…

Every social media post is a paper flyer you hand out in a crowd. Some people take it. Most end up on the ground.

Every blog post is a signpost you hammer into the ground that stays there, pointing people in your direction, for as long as you want it to.social media vs blog post

One year from now, you’ll wish you’d started today.

One more thing: blogs are the gateway to building your email list. When someone finds your blog post, they’re not just reading, they’re on YOUR site. That’s when you can offer them something valuable in exchange for their email.

A social media follower? You don’t own that relationship.

An email subscriber? They’re yours, completely outside any platform’s control. Every blog post becomes a potential entry point to building an audience that actually stays with you.

How To Get Started Blogging

That being said, I know blogging can feel overwhelming if you’ve never done it.

  • Where do you start?
  • What do you write about?
  • How do you set it up so it actually works?

I’ve got a blogging workshop at https://JoyHealey.com/CBPC that walks you through the whole thing, step by step. No fluff, no jargon, just a clear path to getting your first posts live and working for you.

You can either follow the step-by-step instructions, or if your time is short, there’s a done-for-you service.
