Tips on website hosting

Hosting your website means, loosely translated, where you will store the files that make up your site so that others on the Internet can have access to them.

Sorry if that’s over-simplistic for some people, but when I first started out on-line I had no idea what hosting was but everyone assumed I knew!

Deciding where to host your website and/or blog is not a decision to be made lightly. Unfortunately I DID make it lightly, because I didn’t understand all the implications. Hopefully reading this wil help you avoid the mistakes I made.

When starting out online and deciding where to host your website (i.e. where to “put” the files so that other Internet users can see them) you may wonder if you actually need to pay for hosting. Most small businesses wil quite naturally want to minimise costs, so is this one cost  you can completely do without? In theory, yes, but let’s look at the most important points in the argument.

So, it’s time to review the week – yet again. At one level it’s been a very productive week, doing the work for my book-keeping clients, but my Internet and Hair Analysis work takes a hit. Never mind, at the moment the book-keeping is the more profitable!

But I haveHead in the Clouds, Speeding up my Blog 2 made some progress – and the cloud by the side is a clue. Those of you who follow Jan Kearney’s blog will have read about the Cloudinary plugin, where you host your images on the Cloud, to speed up your blog’s image load time. Another cool feature of the plugin is that you can manipulate the images “in situ” and apply “effects”.
