playing-online-gamesSome people enjoy playing online games. Some people have no interest in games at all. But whichever type of person you are, would you be interested in knowing how you could make money online playing games and combine it with a lucrative business? Especially if it gave you chance to be in at the early stages of a new crypto coin?

A New Cryptocurrency

The coin involved is Gala – and you can check its historical progress out here. Yes, at the time of writing (April 2021) it's only worth a few cents – but Bitcoin was only worth a few cents once, and look at it now.

Update December 2021: Wow – click here and you'll see what an increase in value for those who acquired Gala coins back in April 2021 – or along the way. Risk Warning – As you'll see on the historical trends, the coin values can go up and down wildly. Past performance is no guarantee of future performance.

If the trends continue, there may be good profits, but we're looking long-term here. No ‘get-rich quick'.

In case you, like me, totally underestimated the size of the global gaming market, here are some statistics to pique your interest.

What is The Future of The Global Gaming Market?

During the pandemic, world-wide lock-downs and staff on furlough have helped to fuel the rising interest in online games, so you may already be an online games enthusiast.

Or you may be someone, like me, who thinks “Who on earth has time to waste playing games online?” And the other question that hadn't even occurred to me to ask was “Who on earth wastes money playing games online?”

Wow – did I get a surprise when I did even basic research!

The global gaming market is set to reach $256.97 billion by 2025.

More than 2.5 billion people worldwide play games.

In the video I'd like you to watch, my team leader presents even more statistics – showing that more people are playing games than are watching TV. Click here to learn more about making money playing online games.

I'm clearly way behind the trends. But with hindsight I guess I've probably trained Facebook and my friends that I don't play online games. Because there was a time when people were always asking me to play games online, but I always refused.

But with Gala Games, it's just the beginning. They are tapping into a hungry market-place and their founders have the expertise to deliver.

Where do Gala Coins Come Into This?

Gala coins are the currency used within Gala Games. You can either buy them, or earn them, playing Gala games.

The other term to learn is NFT – which I had come across before, but in the context I came across it (see below) I dismissed it as not something I could never afford to get involved with.

Luckily it turns out there's a free option to start earning Gala coins, just by introducing other players.

First let's look at what is an NFT?

NFTs – Non Fungible Tokens

What is an NFT – oh goodness, where to start? Just when I thought I'd got the hang of blockchain (well, sort of) along come NFTs.

NFTs, or non-fungible tokens, are unique files that live on a blockchain and are able to verify ownership of a work of digital art. Buyers typically get limited rights to display the digital artwork they represent, but in many ways, they’re just buying bragging rights and an asset they may be able to resell later.  Source: The Verge

My first exposure to NFTs was nothing to do with games. I was listening to a news item on the radio where I heard that an artist known as Beeple had sold an NFT of his art at Christie's for $69 million. Before October 2020 the most he'd ever been paid for a print was $100.  Don't take my word for it – check it out on the Christie's site here.

Now don't get hung up on art – that's just one application of NFTs.

And here's another example:

Major business magazine Forbes has sold a non-fungible token of its latest issue cover for $333,333 to a bidder who goes by “mondoir.”  The magazine's first-ever NFT, titled “Merchants of the Metaverse,” features Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss. The 24-hour auction took place on NFT marketplace Nifty Gateway, ending on Thursday at 1:30 PM EST.  Forbes has stated it will donate all proceeds of the sale to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) and the International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF). Hearing about these was why I believed that they could be amazingly valuable when the next time I heard NFTs mentioned was in the context of Gala Games.

Gala Games

Who are Gala Games, and what is their first game?

From one of the founders of Zynga and some of the creative minds behind FarmVille and Words With Friends comes Town Star, a game for the Gala blockchain. Blockchain is the next evolution of gaming and has the $148B industry buzzing with excitement. It's gaming re-imagined to benefit creators and players, alike.

In Town Star, players become masters of urban planning and productivity as they create fully operational towns from scratch and compete against players from around the world to earn NFTs and Gala Coins.  Learn more about Gala Games here.

At one time there was a referral / affiliate program for Gala, but I understand that's now closed.

How to Make Money Online Playing Video Games

You can earn Gala coins (currently worth just a few cents):

  • By trading digital assets with other players (for instance parcels of land, or extra powers)
  • You can play Gala games
  • If you can afford to purchase what is known as a ‘node' (cost about $18,000 as of Dec 2021) you can even ‘rent' your computer out to Gala Games to help them power the network. At the time of writing (April 2021) this is typically earning something between 800 and 900 coins a day so long as you share your computer for 6 hours. Update December 2021: as more people rent their computer out, there are fewer coins to be earned (currently about 300 per day) but of course those coins are much more valuable – at the time of writing.

Gala coins that you acquire may go up in value – OR they may go down! But if you earned them just by playing a game, that's only been your time wasted, and you hopefully enjoyed the game.

I don't play these games – I tried but remained mystified! However, I have friends who are making a daily profit playing these games, so if you have the patience (and some hours and money) to get started, it is possible.
