Recently I published an article about social media marketing predictions for 2025 – click here for a reminder.
Instagram: The AI Playground, Now with AR Glasses
I added another article about how Instagram used to be all about photos—now, it’s about video and Reels. Here’s an article about their trial reels.
Here are some of the changes I’ve been implementing myself.
AI: Follow-ups
I never get round to following-up on leads. Do you?
But I’m having success with AI follow-ups for a lead generation program I am using.
Facebook: More AI, More Video, Less Personal Touch
Facebook is still the biggest social platform—barely—but let’s face it, it’s not exactly cool anymore. Meta knows it needs to innovate, which is why you’ll see even more AI-driven content, from random image prompts to AI tools for content creation.
I’m not a great fan of social media content creation for Facebook posts – it always looks so worthy, and obvious. I think the worst brief trend was when people were trying to respond to comments with AI. I tried some software for all of a day, but often found it was saying the exact opposite of what I wanted it to say.
Even an automated ‘Congratulations’ on every post is better than that. But NO – I never use such automated comments. I’ve seen some really inapproprite uses.
So instead of AI posts, what I do is ask ChatGPT for ideas and then put them into my own voice.
However, I’m still enjoying playing with the ChatGPT image generator. It’s WAY better than I ever was. My creations always looked like a dog’s dinner – despite Canva’s best efforts.
But the other day I asked ChatGPT to generate an image about marketers who don’t follow up leaving money on the table, and it came up with this, and all I have to do is caption it with my website url in Canva.
But apparently it’s mostly going to be about video going forward.
We can now expect a flood of AI-curated Reels, because, well, that’s what’s getting engagement. Video is now the bread and butter of Facebook’s strategy, because they are trying to steal back the limelight from TikTok.
Video: Your New Best Friend
Even I am now starting on video having learned it is the primary focus across all of Meta’s platforms—especially short-form video. Facebook, inspired by TikTok’s dominance, is pushing more video in your feed, so expect more AI-generated Reels and less of everything else. Yes, I’ve certainly noticed that.
Loveable dog videos, that turn into baked bean adverts. Hmmmm?
But here’s another of my AI history videos:
My AI history channel (https://TikTok.com/@ai.history.rewind) is more for fun than for profit. Although if I make it into the TikTok content creator program, the rewards can be very lucrative.
TikTok Shopping is the next big thing
TikTok’s obsession with in-app shopping is growing in 2025. Western audiences aren’t wild about live-stream shopping yet, but they’re working hard to change that. If you’re marketing products, TikTok’s already showing signs of success, and it’s only going to push harder.
Expect in-stream shopping, live-stream avatars, and more ways to buy directly through the app. TikTok is testing avatars that sell products live—think low-cost, AI-powered influencers selling to your audience 24/7. It’s a game-changer for ecommerce marketers.
I had a little try, and put up a TikTok shop – but it was a flop. So, back to the drawing board and I’m getting some training from a guy making $1k a day on TikTok shop.
