How to keep blogging when life goes haywire!
What a brilliant article (again) from Ryan Biddulph of Blogging From Paradise.Β In case you missed it, this was his last one.
Regular readers will know that I have had my fair share of “life hiccups” – but yes, somehow I have managed to keep going.
What’s encouraging to me is to hear that even far more experienced bloggers than I am have these blips too.
So please read Ryan’s great article below. It may help you at a time when you’re wavering in your blogging.

Life intervenes.
Trust me. I know.
I have experienced intense offline situations over the years.
We all have.
Family stuff can cripple all but the most focused bloggers. Financial issues can handcuff everybody but the most resolute bloggers.
But pro bloggers keep blogging when life goes haywire.
Emotional intelligence reigns supreme. Fears triggered by hairy situations offline have no power over emotionally intelligent, relaxed, focused bloggers who genuinely love what they do.
Follow these tips to keep blogging when life goes haywire.
Process the Fear Triggered by the Situation
Guys; no blogger is an emotionless robot. Last time I looked, I am no blogging cyborg.
When life throws you a curve ball, humans who keep going take a deep breath and allow themselves to feel the emotions triggered by events like:
- the death of a loved one
- financial difficulties
- domestic issues
- blogging issues
Be human to get past heartache, heartbreak and all manner of offline situations. I only persist because I feel the fear, pain and intensity of offline situations that feel uncomfortable to embrace. Most bloggers resist fears, bury the fears and these buried emotions form anchors which drag them away from blogging for days, weeks and months.
Your intuition knows how much time to take off to feel your emotions, to lick your wounds and to regroup before returning to blogging. Since blogging is fun, easy, relaxing and cathartic for me, I blog every day no matter what happens.
Blogging for me is like breathing. Automatic. Plus I love doing it, so it makes me feel alive (funny blogging-breathing analogy).
Do What Ya Gotta Do Offline
Here in Northern New Jersey we sometimes say, “Ya do what ya gotta do.”
In essence, you take care of what you need to take care of offline to maintain peace of mind and a sense of calm, confident serenity, online.
When I slammed into intense problems offline I could never quite keep blogging online UNTIL I felt fears triggered from the event and also dealt with the event fully. Dealing with both the emotion of fear and offline situations that need to be addressed help you blog persistently without being burdened by the heavy yoke of worry, anxiety and regret.
You will grieve offline for a bit for a loved one. You will address financial problems offline before moving forward with blogging. Family issues need to be dealt with to blog from a clear, focused energy.
Do what ya gotta do offline for peace of mind online.
Blog!
You embraced, felt and released fears triggered from haywire-inducing events. Plus you did what you had to do in order to proceed with peace of mind.
So…..blog!
This is the key step. Get back on the blogging horse immediately after the prior 2 steps.
Most bloggers screw this up. Some hug the fear and deal with offline issues but wait for days, weeks or months to blog again. Why? What gives?
Keep your blogging momentum building. Worry not about 1 or 2 days or 1 week off from blogging, but do worry if you take 2 or 3 weeks off from blogging because red flags arise. Is blogging for you? Do you love blogging? Even if you work 14 hours daily offline and spend an extra 2 hours helping a sick parent, you need to set aside 10 to 30 minutes daily to write. You need to blog for fun, catharsis and for…..yourself!
Keep blogging guys. Life tosses us curve balls. Sometimes we swing and miss but if you stop swinging you may as well be a fan in the crowd, watching from the sidelines. I have blogged through a few painful situations offline and online. After licking my wounds I jumped back into my blog because if you give up when life goes bonkers you surrendered your passion, your joy and one element of your freedom, to become a slave to circumstances.
If you do not believe in yourself and your blog you will be tossed to and fro on the sea of circumstance.
No matter what happens, keep blogging. Believe in you. Believe in your blog. Take a step back, embrace the pain and allow your intuition to guide you back to your blog.
You will be back in the saddle in no time.
