The Best Apps to Help You Write
While there are no artificial intelligent computers that can quite master the art of narrative writing (yet), there are a number of ways you can augment your human writing skills with software. If you need to write for work, love to write correspondence, or have artistic aspirations, these apps give you a boost. They have functionality that allows you to spend more time creating and less time worrying about things like proper grammar, sentence structure, even flipping back and forth through notes.
There are a number of different ways that software can get you further in your writing goals, and it’s a simple process of testing out some of the best of them to see which ones are specifically useful for your needs and will help you write.
Writing encouragement apps
A writer writes, they say, everyday. The 750 Words app gives you incentives to write about 3 double spaced pages per day. The real-time charts and graphs give you an idea of how your productivity and progress is going.
Access your writing anywhere
Ever get to a hotel with a chance to write and realize the copy of your latest draft is stuck on your desktop at home? If you write on Google Docs as part of Google’s Gsuite of apps, you’ll be able to access your piece anywhere, you can also track your drafts and it’s easy to collaborate with others, with the option of working on the same piece simultaneously.
Get your grammar here
If you keep forgetting to keep the apostrophe out of “it’s” or find yourself making passive statements all the time, Grammarly is an app to help. Again, while AI isn’t great at narrative, it can generally detect and replace poor sentence structure, something that will make your writing more impactful.
Take control of your time
Find that you have trouble taking the time to write? If you feel like you “just don’t have time to do anything”, maybe take some time to assess how much time per week you are wasting on social media or other similar distractions. An app called Rescuetime tracks your usage so you can see whether you truly don’t have time, or if you are actually burning time scrolling through cat videos instead of getting down to writing.
Be more productive
Apps like Anti-Social have a timer that locks you out of distracting social media and email tasks so that you are compelled to focus. Another app that helps to keep you on task is called Freedom which can be used for both your phone and all your devices to make sure that you don’t find yourself in a social media hole when you should be getting to the end of your chapter.
Organize your thoughts
An app called Wridea makes it easy to organize ideas and even has the functionality to share or source ideas simply with friends or coworkers. Don’t think alone when you can get a number of great minds together.
